Tip! The special shallow dish in which they grow is an important part of bonsai. While this pot can be any shape, it’s sized must be in proportion to the tree grown in it.

Barbados Cherry Bonsai Tree-Medium (Malpighia Pendiculata) (Tipos de bonsai)

Barbados Cherry Bonsai Tree-Medium (Malpighia Pendiculata)

Native to St. Croix, Trinidad and Curacao. The name Malpighia is used to honor Marcello Malpighia (1628-1693). He was a distinguished naturalist in Bologna, Italy. The natural form of the Barbados Cherry is Pendulous with weeping twigs and branches. The flowers are rose-pink, often several together in a cyme. Its fruit is small and edible. It has a weeping growth habit if the branches are allowed to elongate. The round edible fruits are borne singly or in 2s or 3s and are bright red with glossy skin. The fruit is very juicy and extremely high in ascorbic acid. Great indoor bonsai.

Tip! The only real difference between caring for your mini bonsai is you require a much smaller pot. This does not mean you should neglect your repotting duties however.

Bonsai was first discovered over one thousand years ago in China although it was not known as “bonsai” back then, instead it was known as “punsai”.

Tip! Formal upright bonsai gardening The formal upright style is also called the Chokkan style. This style is adopted only by the experienced Bonsai artists.

The Brush Cherry can add wonderful color as well as interest to your garden. This evergreen shrub will enhance your gardening efforts by yielding puffy white flowers along with round berries all in contrast with it’s glossy leaves which can have a lovely red tint.
